Land Aid

"The Anglo Irish Bank Regatta is an exciting new event in the property industry calendar and Land Aid is truly delighted to have been chosen as its beneficiary. Many thanks to the Anglo Irish Bank, the other sponsors and those who will be taking part for their support."

Julian Smythe – CEO Land Aid

LandAid is the charity of the UK property sector from whom its support is drawn. It is run by a Board of Trustees from within the industry and is celebrating its twenty-third anniversary in 2008.

Since 1985, LandAid has donated over £1.5 million to specialist agencies working with the homeless and other related causes. At the heart of LandAid’s mission and current fundraising efforts lies a commitment to transforming the lives of homeless young people through ‘Foundations for Life’, an innovative partnership with Centrepoint the leading youth homelessness charity..

The ‘Foundations for Life’ initiative gives the young homeless the opportunity to turn their lives round. This is achieved by providing individual learning and personal development programmes, giving them access to appropriate training and work experience, and offering ongoing expert support in a secure and welcoming environment. The overriding objective is that each young person should achieve lasting independence by having a job and a home. It is the aim of ‘Foundations for Life’ to support each young person in developing their skills and confidence to enable them to reach their true potential.

A key element is to provide the right physical environment in which these services can be delivered. The initial focus of LandAid’s efforts has been to raise funds to finance the creation of new dedicated learning facilities at established Centrepoint sites. The first three London-based projects at Bruce House, Berwick Street, and Haberdashers House have now been agreed and work is due to start on site early this year.

Bruce House, Covent Garden
The Bruce House Foyer provides housing to 49 homeless young people. The project will create dedicated facilities where they can pursue learning and life skills programmes under expert guidance with access to computers. The facilities will also be available to a further 65 young people who live in other Centrepoint accommodation nearby.

Berwick Street, Soho
Berwick Street provides short stay supported housing to 27 young people but currently has no on-site learning facilities. The project will provide a learning and computer suite with expert support to enable them to improve their skills.

Haberdashers House, Lewisham
Haberdashers House provides supported housing to 7 young people but currently has no on-site learning facility. The project will provide a dedicated area for group and individual life skills and training sessions with computer support.

LandAid welcomes your support.
